I offer complete care for the childbearing year. My office is located in Ardmore, Tennessee, convenient to middle Tennessee and north Alabama. Women living in Tennessee may birth in their home and I will come to them. Families from other states will need to choose a place to birth. I have a small residence in Ardmore that is available for use. Please understand that this is not a birth-center or hospital facility.  The equipment and the scope of services that I provide there are the same as if you are birthing in your own home. There is no additional charge to use the house. Birth certificates are handled hassle-free.

Philosophy

God designed the female body to birth the infant it conceived and nurtured for nine months. Women may enhance this experience by eating whole food, living a good lifestyle and increasing their faith in this design. Women birth best in an environment they feel comfortable in, surrounded by other women with compatible beliefs.

Profile and Credentials

I am a Christian, married since 1975. Three of my four children were born at home and it was through these experiences that I became interested in midwifery. I have been involved in homebirth since 1982 and worked in a hospital with breastfeeding mothers for four years previous.

In 1997, I became a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM). The CPM credential is a competence-based certification process administered by the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM). It is designed to validate a midwife's training and skills to safely attend births in an out-of-hospital setting. This process includes documenting a specified amount of clinical experience, demonstrating competence in a range of skills, and passing a written examination administered by NARM. To maintain my CPM credential, I am required to obtain continuing education credits and current certification in infant neonatal resuscitation and adult CPR.

The state of Tennessee grants licensure to midwives who possess the CPM credential. In 2002, I received my license to practice in Tennessee. As a Tennessee licensed midwife, I will adhere to established standards which promote safe and competent care, as outlined in the Tennessee Midwives' Association Practice Guidelines and the Midwives Alliance of North America's Core Competencies.
